What is coaching?

Coaching is the process of helping you to develop and grow.  It is the process of helping you realise your potential.

Historically, coaching is associated with sport.  A tennis coach would help a player by teaching them new skills, refining their technique, and encouraging them to persevere.  The coach would help the player to enhance their strengths, and identify their weaknesses.  With practice and the support of the coach, the tennis player would develop to the full extent of their abilities.  It was recognised that the skills of the coach were as important the skills of the player.

Coaching is now available in our personal and business lives.  People, like you, are realising that having a skilled and objective coach helps them to develop more fully, and much more quickly.  A coach brings a new perspective, is trained to listen and enquire, provides support in a confidential environment, and has novel techniques which can stimulate movement and a fresh insight.

Streams of coaching

Coaching has branched into many streams of specialty.  There are also many terms used to describe the same thing.  Life coaching, personal coaching, executive coaching, career coaching, relationship coaching and speech coaching are some of the many services offered.  The area of focus will differ, the underlying principle is the same – to help you realise your potential.
